I feel fortunate to have landed with a great young company called Jaduka. It is the API and professional development arm of its parent company NetworkIP.
To start off my employment, I was scheduled for a couple of weeks in Austin to meet with a few members of the technical staff. The technical training really took the form of discussions covering a wide variety of topics ranging from company history, infrastructure, sales process, organizational structure, pricing, API details, project management process, market position, competitive requirements and plenty of other topics.
I appreciated the opportunity to learn as well as to get to know my colleagues. Working remotely for an entrepreneurial company is not for everyone. I happen to love it.
The primary negative for me, I imagine, will be the lack of time interacting with colleagues in a non-structured way. Regular meetings over the phone or online are typically highly productive and task oriented. The ability to get to know your colleagues informally over BBQ at Rudy's or at Taco Deli provides insight into what the team and organization can become. I valued the opportunity.
